Winter Dinner Recipe: Easy Beef Stroganoff

Beef Stroganoff - The Best Winter Comfort Food

With winter well and truly here, there’s no more perfect time than now to have a good, hearty, comfort meal. On our winter menu, we recommend making up a rich beef stroganoff or a slow-roasted beef bolar blade, or rounding it off with a perfect diced beef pasta. This week, we’re focusing on Beef Stroganoff, a hearty, rich beef stew, which we recommend cooking with our high-grade, grass-fed, restaurant-quality beef stroganoff 10mm strips.

How to make Beef stroganoff

Beef Stroganoff is a traditional Russian dish, the word Stroganoff refers to a Russian family dating back to the reign of Iven the Terrible. beef stroganoff was named after the family as one of their chefs combined French mustard, Russian sour cream and beef. Fast-forward today, there are many variations of the dish. The beef stroganoff recipe has developed to include sautéed pieces of beef served with a sour cream sauce, mushrooms, tomato paste and brown onions making the untimed winter comfort food. You may choose to server the Beef Stroganoff with rice or as a paster sauce.

What is the best beef cut to make Stroganoff?

Beef Stroganoff is best made with high-quality tender beef cuts. This is why we have selected beef tenderloin for our beef stroganoff stirps. Although beef stroganoff is known for its humble ingredients of cream, mushroom and mustard the recipe calls for quality meat. Our locally sourced grass-fed beef has the taste all Australians love. With this cut, you know you're getting quality beef whilst keeping a healthy intake of red meat.  All our meat is locally sourced supporting our Victorian farmers.

What to serve with a Beef Stroganoff?

We recommend serving beef stroganoff the traditional way, on top of fettuccini pasta. This is the way most people serve the dish as it encompasses the hardy taste of good comfort food. We also recommend serving beef stroganoff with rice. Rice has a neutral taste which is perfect for allowing the creamy mushroom stroganoff sauce to be absorbed. Alternatively, if you are wanting something light and healthy you can try seasonal roast vegetables such as pumpkin and green beans. Vegetables are a great way to balance the dish as a healthy alternative to pasta.
